Effect of Different Remelting Parameters on Slag Temperature and Energy Consumption during ESR

Energy consumption is a vital aspect in the production of high quality materials by using electro slag remelting as refining method. The electrical conductivity and melting point slag, determined composition, well fill ratio, amount melt rate have significant influence. Several these factors new method to measure surface temperature with two-color pyrometer were investigated laboratory scale trials. Two different slags an average low used. While there only small impact cap height rate, composition showed strong effect, both on specific energy consumption. Additional investigations confirmed that effect compositions non-metallic inclusions, respectively cleanliness level steel after rather minor. results suggest possibilities for easily applicable, improved process parameters, which can combine product significantly reduced
